Koh Chang (sometimes written Ko Chang) is a Thai island located in the eastern part of the country. It is the second largest island in the archipelago, but it is sparsely populated and has only recently seen significant development. Long a backpacker’s paradise, Koh Chang is being transformed into a normal beach resort destination, as per the Thai government’s wishes, causing controversy in the area. The standard is hotels like GajaPuri Resort & Spa and Panviman Resort Koh Chang. The island is known for its pristine beaches and marine habitats, both of which are under threat from uncontrolled development. Nature is the most popular activity among travelers. Snorkeling, SCUBA diving, and simply resting on the beach are all popular activities, as are hikes through the steaming jungle.

The island Ko Chang occupies most of the district’s land area, along with several smaller islands. With an area of 210 km2, Ko Chang is the third-largest island in Thailand by area, after Phuket and Ko Samui. The name Ko Chang means ‘Elephant Island’ and derives from its elephant-shaped headland. Despite the presence of elephants on the island, they are not indigenous. At present, there are eight villages on the island
